About BeautifulFarewell.org

BeautifulFarewell.org is a collection of stories from families who chose to acknowledge the life of someone they loved.

The stories here are not meant to prescribe a single approach. They reflect a range of experiences. Traditional services. Small gatherings. Structured ceremonies. Simple moments at home.

What they share is this: someone decided the life of a person they loved mattered enough to mark it.

This project was created by John H. Callaghan, author of A Beautiful Farewell. After years of listening to families describe both regret and relief around how they said goodbye, he began collecting stories. Stories that show what it looks like when a life is acknowledged.

This site exists to offer examples.

Many people feel unsure what to do after a loss. Stories give them a place to start. They show that there is more than one way to say goodbye. That it does not have to be elaborate.

Some readers find this site after reading the book. Others arrive looking for reassurance that they are not alone.

You will not find planning checklists here.

You will not find pressure to follow a specific formula.

You will find stories.

If your family created a farewell that felt honest, you are welcome to share it. Your story may help someone else who is quietly wondering what to do.

A Simple Reminder

It does not need to be elaborate or perfect.

What matters is that the life and the loss are acknowledged.
